Wizards of the Coast is changing the contents and naming of Magic boosters from the first 2027 set, Nauctis: The Sunken Realm. Play Boosters become simply Booster Packs, while one in every 1,000 Booster Packs will be a God Pack containing fourteen rares or mythic rares plus a celebration card. Collector Boosters get their own premium version at roughly one in 300 packs, with twelve rare or mythic slots, a foil land and the celebration card.
The redesign also moves traditional-foil Japan Showcase cards into the wildcard slot of regular Booster Packs and raises the chance of opening a foil rare or mythic. Those additions come with removals. Common and uncommon foils disappear from Booster Packs, which will no longer guarantee a foil. Collector Boosters lose two foil commons and one foil uncommon, reducing their card count by three. Wizards says suggested prices will not change.
The company frames the swap as a printing-capacity and player-excitement trade-off: fewer low-rarity foils create room for premium treatments and God Packs. That matters to both Limited players and collectors because pack composition, foil supply and chase-card distribution all change at once. A same-day Arena announcement adds an important boundary: Store packs will receive a version of God Packs, but Draft and Sealed packs will not, preventing the lottery packs from affecting Limited play. Universes Beyond sets are expected to join the God Pack program in 2028.
