Lille and Minneapolis open 2027 Spotlight, with CommandFest joining every stop

Two January Limited tournaments offer $50,000 each, Picard promos and Pro Tour invitations; Commander packages join the program.

Magic Spotlight begins its 2027 season in Lille, France and Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 9–10. Both events use Star Trek Limited and each has a $50,000 prize pool. Fanfinity organizes Lille, while Star City Games runs Minneapolis.

The competitive structure starts with Sealed on day one, followed by two drafts on day two and a Top 8 draft. The Top 8 at each stop qualify for the Pro Tour at MagicCon: Tokyo on May 14–16, 2027. Each tournament winner also receives a Black Lotus trophy.

The participation promo is an extended-art Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary with artwork by Alexander Mokhov. Main-event participants receive a nonfoil copy; the Top 128 receive an additional traditional-foil version. The announcement does not establish a final worldwide print run or a secondary-market value, so scarcity arithmetic should not be mistaken for a confirmed supply cap.

The wider program change is that every 2027 Magic Spotlight event will also include a CommandFest. That gives Commander players a dedicated reason to attend without entering the main competitive tournament. Full-weekend CommandFest packages receive the same nonfoil Picard promo; they do not automatically qualify their holders for the Top 128 foil award.

Further package and CommandFest details are still to come. For competitive players, the practical news is a pair of early-year open Limited events with a route to Tokyo. For Commander players, the new program links casual-event packages and participation rewards to the Spotlight circuit. Registration prices and final local schedules should be checked with the relevant organizer once published.
