Samut gives every instant and sorcery split second to lock out responses

New Reality Fracture legend Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun gives its controller’s instants and sorceries split second, shielding combo, removal and counterspells from opposing spells and nonmana activated abilities.

Source transparency: This Digest item is based primarily on reporting from MTG Rocks. TMF summarizes and interprets the news; original reporting remains credited and linked.
Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun is a newly revealed two-mana Reality Fracture legend that gives its controller’s instant and sorcery spells split second. While one of those spells is on the stack, opponents cannot cast spells or activate nonmana abilities, making combo pieces, removal, board wipes and counterspells much harder to answer.

Unlike effects that only restrict opponents during the controller’s turn, Samut also protects interaction cast on opposing turns. The September 17 MTG Rocks analysis identifies immediate Commander and cEDH applications, while Modern Neoform and Pioneer Scapeshift shells are plausible competitive homes. Those constructed uses remain prospective rather than measured adoption; split second also does not stop mana abilities or triggered abilities.
