Star Trek’s Commander Party will run in two windows: November 20–26, 2026 and January 15–21, 2027. Wizards’ October 28 materials describe a shared mission deck that changes the conditions of an ordinary Commander pod.
At the beginning of a player’s first main phase, that player may tap an untapped legendary creature they control to send an away team. That creature becomes a mission specialist, and the player turns over the next mission card. Its first ability triggers immediately; its other ability remains in effect until someone starts the next mission. The timing matters: sending a team is tied to the beginning of the first main phase, rather than being an action available throughout the turn.
A player without an appropriate creature is not permanently locked out. The play aid allows them to pay three mana to create Away Team Leader, a legendary red 3/3 Officer token. This can be activated only as a sorcery and only when they do not already control a creature with that name.
WPN recommends pods of three or four and provides the play aids and mission cards. Stores may schedule one Commander Party in each window. Participation promos are available while supplies last, with foil versions at WPN Premium stores and nonfoil versions elsewhere. This is an event overlay for Commander, not a permanent change to the format’s rules or a requirement for normal games.
