MTG Arena has begun linking digital accounts to local-store play through four Wizards Play Network features launched on October 1. The update adds evergreen achievements for actions outside the client, a Favorite Stores screen, opt-in messages from those stores and an event carousel that can surface one upcoming event at a time.
Achievement progress is tied to the same Wizards account used for sanctioned in-person events. Examples range from favoriting a store for 1,000 gold to attending three drafts for a Draft token; a first visit to a Legendary Store awards a Jodah sleeve. Progress is not retroactive, so events before October 1 do not count. Players can favorite multiple stores through the Store and Event Locator or Companion, then manage notifications per store in Arena.
The messaging layer is deliberately opt-in. Store notices appear in a separate inbox tab, while the carousel promotes events from favorited stores. Muting a store suppresses both kinds of communication without removing it from the favorites list.
The practical change is larger than a one-off promotion: Arena accounts can now recognize paper attendance and provide persistent communication channels for local organizers. Rewards give digital-first players a measurable reason to visit stores, while individual mute controls limit the risk of unwanted promotion. The launch establishes infrastructure Wizards can expand, but its immediate value depends on stores creating sanctioned events and players using the same account across digital and tabletop play.
