Boros land destruction finishes second in a 98-player Pioneer qualifier

A new Pioneer control shell uses Field of Ruin, Cleansing Wildfire and Avengers Disassembled to exhaust nonbasic-heavy mana bases while retaining sweepers for aggressive matchups.

Boros land destruction finished second in the latest 98-player Magic Online Pioneer Regional Championship Qualifier, giving a previously fringe strategy a meaningful competitive result.

The deck uses Field of Ruin and Demolition Field to consume opponents’ limited supply of basics. Once those targets run out, Cleansing Wildfire and Price of Freedom become two-mana land-destruction spells that also replace themselves. Avengers Disassembled and Day of Judgment let the same shell recover against aggressive decks instead of folding while it attacks mana.

The configuration is strongest against nonbasic-heavy midrange and control decks, but its slow clock leaves weaknesses against Greasefang, Scapeshift and pressure backed by Spell Pierce. One second-place finish does not establish a format trend; it does validate a current, tournament-backed Pioneer strategy with a clear metagame thesis.
