Darklight Phoenix powers a turn-two Modern reanimation shell

A new Jund Sacrifice list went 5–0 in a Modern League, combining Buried Alive with black-creature sacrifice to return three Phoenixes as early as turn two.

Darklight Phoenix has acquired a distinct Modern home: a Jund Sacrifice list built around loading the graveyard rather than casting a conventional sequence of threats. MTG Rocks described the shell on October 3, and its linked MTGGoldfish list records bakkenal's 5–0 Modern League result on October 1. That is a successful first field test, not evidence of a settled tier deck.

The list runs four copies each of Darklight Phoenix and Buried Alive. Buried Alive can put three Phoenixes into the graveyard at once; sacrificing a black creature then supplies the necessary deaths for their return. The fastest reported line starts with Greedy Freebooter on turn one. On turn two, sacrifice it to the alternative cost of Flare of Malice, using its Treasure and the second land to cast Buried Alive before the end-step check. With the right opening cards and mana, three Phoenixes represent nine power entering play that turn. This is an achievable ceiling, not the deck's usual guaranteed opening.

The supporting cards give the shell other routes when Buried Alive is missing. Stitcher's Supplier and Malevolent Rumble can stock the graveyard, while Bone Shards combines a sacrifice with removal. Goblin Bombardment is the repeatable outlet: two creatures can be sacrificed, or Bloodghast can be sacrificed, returned by a land drop and sacrificed again. Phyrexian Tower and Rumble's Spawn token contribute both sacrifice access and mana, allowing drawn Phoenixes to be cast in slower games.

There is also a genuine grind plan. The published list contains four Eyetwitch, three Bombardment and three Tower, with Lessons in the sideboard. Eyetwitch provides access to situational tools rather than relying exclusively on the initial reanimation burst. Against creature decks, Bombardment handles small threats and Flare can answer larger creatures without targeting them. Sacrifice outlets can also move a Phoenix into the graveyard in response to exile removal, but do not make the engine immune to disruption.

Graveyard hate is the decisive limitation. Surgical Extraction can strip the Phoenix package after Buried Alive; Rest in Peace stops cards reaching the graveyard and prevents death-based value, including Eyetwitch's trigger. This construction therefore offers a powerful new use of Reality Fracture's card, with a concrete tournament-backed list and clear interaction points. It should be evaluated as early strategic innovation, separately from the previously covered Standard Phoenix shells.
