Hela reveals Vengeance, a graveyard-only spell mechanic for Darkhold Destiny

Dark Tutor introduces a new way to turn a discarded creature card into a spell, with an explicit exile cost to reuse.

Hela, Mistress of Darkness has revealed Vengeance, a new mechanic in Marvel: Darkhold Destiny. The October 10 first-look coverage shows a creature card with a separate sorcery that can be cast only from the graveyard, then exiled.

Hela’s Vengeance spell is Dark Tutor. For one generic and two black mana, it searches for any card and puts it into the player’s hand or graveyard, then costs that player three life. The graveyard option makes the spell useful for setting up reanimation as well as finding an immediate answer or combo piece.

The important restriction is access. Drawing Hela does not let a player cast Dark Tutor straight from hand. The card must reach the graveyard first, making discard outlets, self-mill or a creature’s death relevant to the construction. Exiling it after the Vengeance spell also prevents simply treating it as an endlessly reusable graveyard tutor.

Hela’s creature half costs six mana and is a 6/6 God Sorcerer Villain. During its controller’s turn, a player losing life can produce that many tapped 2/2 black Zombie tokens, limited to once each turn. That creates a separate creature-based payoff, but a deck may value the tutor without planning to cast the expensive creature at all.

These are previewed interactions, not evidence of tournament adoption. Darkhold Destiny does not release until April 9, 2027, and the full set and rules documentation are still to come. For now, the meaningful development is a new graveyard-only spell structure that asks deckbuilders to treat a creature card as both a creature and a future spell resource.
