Wizards EventLink now lets players enroll through the Store and Event Locator by scanning an event QR code or entering an event code. The Magic Companion app is no longer required, giving stores a second registration path when players do not have the app or prefer not to use it.
On mobile, scanning the QR code opens Companion when it is installed and current; otherwise it opens the web-based locator. A player can also sign in to the locator with a Wizards Account, select the enrollment control and scan or type the code. Wizards says both routes feed EventLink in the same way, so organizers do not need a separate workflow for web registrants.
The practical value is at the counter. Stores previously had extra steps for attendees without Companion, particularly during busy registration periods. Browser enrollment reduces that friction and also supports non-Magic events managed in EventLink. The same update adds separate Player and Dungeon Master roles for Dungeons & Dragons events, with self-selection through the locator or Companion and manual editing by organizers.
For Magic players, the important change is narrower but immediate: an account and a browser are enough to join an event. It complements the new Arena–WPN integration, but answers a different question—how people enter an event rather than how attendance is rewarded—so it stands as a separate operational update.
