Xenagos
The reveler who forced his way into the pantheon
Xenagos turned a satyr's appetite for experience into a campaign for godhood. His ascent exposed the pantheon's dependence on belief, but divine status did not make him beyond Elspeth's reach.
Profile
Why Xenagos matters
Among the satyrs of Theros's Skola Valley, Xenagos relished hosting revels rather than ruling a kingdom. His spark promised new pleasures across the Multiverse. Travel instead brought disillusionment, and returning home gave that frustration a much larger ambition.
He began rituals intended to make him a god. The boundary between Nyx and the mortal world weakened, bringing celestial creatures into everyday danger. Gods who did not understand his plan turned suspicion against one another and punishment against mortals.
The celebration after the defence of Akros became his final ritual. Xenagos ascended as the God of Revels while Heliod blamed Elspeth for the upheaval. His apparent triumph redirected the champion's journey toward Nyx, with Ajani at her side.
Elspeth defeated Xenagos with Godsend by finding the mortal vulnerability within the new god. He was slain, not peacefully accepted into an eternal office. Heliod then killed his own champion; removing the usurper had not removed the pantheon's fear of replacement.
