A path through eras

The Multiverse Timeline

This guided timeline focuses on turning points that connect Lorewalkers routes. It is designed to expand as earlier sagas and current stories enter the archive.

Defining Moments

18 moments shown

  1. Ancient history · Dominaria

    The Brothers’ War

Urza and Mishra began as gifted brothers uncovering the machines of an older civilisation. Possession of the Mightstone and Weakstone turned rivalry into a struggle for control, and every kingdom that chose a side fed the conflict with soldiers, resources and ever larger engines. Phyrexia exploited Mishra while Urza answered each escalation with another weapon. Their final confrontation on Argoth ended when Urza used the Sylex, igniting his spark but devastating the continent and driving Dominaria into an ice age. The war matters far beyond its battlefield: it exposed Phyrexia to Urza, fixed revenge at the centre of his long life and left inventions, bloodlines and traumas that later generations repeatedly inherited. Thousands of years later, Teferi returned to this history searching for a way to operate the Sylex against a new Phyrexian threat.

  2. Ancient history · Dominaria

    The Phyrexian Invasion

Yawgmoth’s Phyrexia spent generations preparing to conquer Dominaria. Urza responded with the Legacy, a design whose pieces included artifacts, bloodlines, the skyship Weatherlight and Karn, but his obsession repeatedly cost other people more than it cost him. When the invasion arrived, portals and the overlay of Rath delivered armies across the plane while the Weatherlight Coalition united peoples who had every reason to distrust one another. Urza’s direct assault on Phyrexia failed; the victory instead belonged to the crew and allies who completed the Legacy Weapon. Gerrard and the Weatherlight brought its power against Yawgmoth, with Karn at the heart of the final release. Phyrexia’s ruler was destroyed, but Dominaria survived as a scarred world. The victory also transformed Karn into a planeswalker and proved that a Multiversal war could be won only through cooperation rather than one mastermind’s plan.

  3. The Mending · Dominaria · The Multiverse

    Time rifts and the Mending

Dominaria’s greatest disasters had torn openings through time itself. The Sylex blast, experiments at Tolaria, the destruction of Shiv and Zhalfir’s removal from the plane were among the wounds that accumulated until reality could no longer absorb them. The rifts distorted places, pulled histories into the present and threatened the wider Multiverse. Repair demanded personal power rather than a single artifact. Teferi, Freyalise, Lord Windgrace, Karn, Venser and others gave up sparks or lives to close individual wounds, while Jeska became the final instrument of the Mending. The Multiverse stabilised, but planeswalker sparks no longer conferred near-divine bodies and effortless power. Future planeswalkers would remain mortal, need food and rest, and cross the Blind Eternities as exceptional people rather than gods. The modern era begins here because every alliance and failure that follows operates under those new limits.

  4. Modern planeswalker era · Zendikar

    The Gatewatch takes its oath

Zendikar was being consumed by Ulamog and Kozilek when four planeswalkers learned that individual heroics were not enough. Gideon brought endurance and a duty to protect, Jace supplied the plan, Nissa spoke with the wounded plane and Chandra returned when retreat would have been safer. Ob Nixilis briefly broke them, but their recovery became a promise: they would stand together against threats that crossed worlds. Nissa drew the Eldrazi titans fully into Zendikar’s leylines and Chandra channelled the plane’s power into fire that destroyed them. The oath created the Gatewatch, not as a flawless institution but as a recurring test of responsibility. Its members would argue, leave, fail and reunite, yet the central idea endured—knowledge of the Multiverse creates obligations beyond one home plane. Later victories and disasters both grew from how seriously they interpreted that promise.

  5. Modern planeswalker era · Ravnica

    War of the Spark

Nicol Bolas turned Ravnica into a trap built from several stolen advantages. The Interplanar Beacon drew planeswalkers to the city, the Immortal Sun prevented their escape and Tezzeret’s Planar Bridge delivered an army of lazotep Eternals from Amonkhet. Bolas intended to harvest captured sparks and emerge with power no rival could challenge. Resistance came from more than the planeswalkers he had targeted: Ravnica’s guilds, citizens and unlikely allies reorganised while the Gatewatch’s first plans failed around them. Liliana, forced to command the Dreadhorde through her contract, chose rebellion even though it meant death. Gideon took that sentence onto himself, allowing her to turn the army against Bolas. With the elderspell reversed and the city united, Bolas was stripped of power and imprisoned. Victory saved the Multiverse, but Gideon’s death broke the Gatewatch’s old centre and left its survivors to define duty without him.

  6. Modern planeswalker era · Mirrodin · New Phyrexia · Dominaria

    New Phyrexia rises again

A trace of glistening oil reached the artificial plane Karn had created and slowly converted Mirrodin into New Phyrexia. Five praetors divided the conquered world into competing visions of perfection, with Elesh Norn eventually forcing those factions beneath her authority. Karn was rescued, but the civilisation formed from his mistake kept growing. Vorinclex reached Kaldheim and returned with material from its World Tree. Jin-Gitaxias learned how to compleat planeswalkers without extinguishing their sparks, turning Tamiyo into proof that Phyrexia could now carry both ideology and agents between worlds. Sheoldred’s campaign on Dominaria recovered old tools and weakened the plane that had resisted Yawgmoth. A planeswalker strike team entered New Phyrexia to detonate a rebuilt Sylex, only to fracture under pressure; several members were compleated and Jace aborted the blast when it threatened other planes. By then Realmbreaker was ready, and the war ceased to have a single front.

  7. The Multiversal invasion · Across the Multiverse

    March of the Machine

Realmbreaker drove its branches through the Blind Eternities and opened portals above many planes at once. Phyrexia expected one command structure and one doctrine to overwhelm worlds fighting alone, but every invasion met a different kind of resistance. Survivors adapted local magic, old enemies cooperated and Phyrexian certainty began to fail at the edges. On New Phyrexia, Elspeth returned as an angel and stopped Norn from using the Sylex. Chandra helped Wrenn reach Realmbreaker; Wrenn joined with the tree, found the displaced Zhalfir and exchanged the positions of Zhalfir and New Phyrexia. Zhalfir’s armies arrived where Norn expected conquest, while her home plane was phased beyond reach. Karn dismantled Norn, and the invasion forces across the Multiverse fell inert. Melira, Karn, Kaya and Teferi then restored Ajani and Nissa at terrible cost. The war ended, but its dead, compleated and desparked survivors ensured that no plane returned to the world it had been before.

  8. The Omenpath era · Across the Multiverse

    Omenpaths open

The invasion changed the geography of the Multiverse even after Realmbreaker disappeared. Openings now connect planes that were once separated by the deadly Blind Eternities, and travellers without sparks can sometimes walk from one world into another. Some Omenpaths remain open, some return on a pattern and others exist only long enough to strand anyone who crosses. At the same time, many planeswalkers lost their sparks, turning former freedom of movement into exile, homecoming or an entirely new life. The result is not simply easier travel. Trade, migration, diplomacy and shared knowledge can grow between worlds, but so can exploitation, invasion and dangers that no longer need a planeswalker to carry them. Avishkar and other societies have begun classifying routes and building policy around them. The Multiverse is more connected than before, yet every connection now asks who can cross, who controls the passage and what follows them through it.

  9. The Omenpath era · Eldraine

    The Wicked Slumber breaks

Eldraine survived the Phyrexian invasion without returning to peace. The Wicked Slumber that had protected many inhabitants continued spreading, while the deaths of King and Queen Kenrith left Will and Rowan with incompatible visions of recovery. Will tried to earn unity through negotiation; Rowan trusted the immediate certainty of power. At the same time, the half-fae Kellan accepted Talion’s bargain to defeat three witches in exchange for his father’s identity. Travelling with Ruby forced him to replace the simple rules of heroic tales with judgement, loyalty and mercy. Their quest converged at Castle Ardenvale, where Eriette used Rowan’s grief to present enchanted obedience as peace. The curse was broken, but the victory divided the twins: Will remained to rebuild and Rowan fled rather than surrender her anger. Kellan learned that Oko was his father and entered an Omenpath to find him. The event marks the first major consequence of the new era: a local crisis could now launch an ordinary traveller onto a route across the Multiverse.

  10. The Omenpath era · Ixalan

    Chimil and the lost caverns

Rival expeditions opened a route into Ixalan’s vast interior and discovered the Oltec civilisation living around Chimil, the Inner Sun. The find disrupted surface histories rather than confirming a single empire’s claim. Huatli and Quintorius treated inscriptions and shared symbols as evidence requiring care, while the Sun Empire, River Heralds, Brazen Coalition and Legion of Dusk brought competing ambitions underground. Kellan joined the journey while following Oko’s trail and learned that crossing worlds without a spark still creates obligations to the people encountered. The vampire zealot Vito released Aclazotz, who attempted to imprison Chimil and return the interior to darkness. Oltec defenders and newcomers stopped that assault, but the bat god escaped toward the surface. The aftermath replaced exploration with diplomacy: ancestry could support kinship, or become a language for conquest. Huatli argued that the Oltec needed agency over contact and recovery. The opened caverns became an Omenpath-era parallel in miniature—a neutral connection whose moral meaning would be decided by those travelling through it.

  11. The Omenpath era · Ravnica

    The murders at Karlov Manor

Ravnica staged a celebration of recovery at Karlov Manor, only for Teysa Karlov to be murdered and the assassin Etrata to be framed by evidence she could not remember creating. Investigator Alquist Proft refused the convenient solution and worked with Etrata, while Kaya pursued the case through her grief and unresolved debt to Teysa. More attacks revealed that the killer was using bodies, roots and access through Ravnica’s living network. Oba, one voice of Trostani, had turned the Selesnya Conclave’s losses during the Phyrexian invasion into a campaign against leaders she blamed for the city’s suffering. Kaya and Etrata contained her by denying that one faction’s pain could command the entire Worldsoul. The case ended the murders without restoring Trostani’s unity or returning Teysa. It also exposed the limits of familiar jurisdiction: Kellan’s work for the Agency and his continuing pursuit of Oko connected a local investigation to roads beyond Ravnica. The city’s next mysteries would no longer respect guild borders or planar ones.

  12. The Omenpath era · Thunder Junction

    The robbery of Maag Taranau

Omenpaths turned Thunder Junction into a frontier populated by travellers, technology and fugitives from many planes. Oko exploited that mixture by building a crew to steal from Akul, the dragon outlaw controlling Tarnation and access to an ancient Fomori vault. Kellan finally found his father and joined the operation, hoping that shared danger would reveal a bond beneath Oko’s manipulations. A jailbreak, a train robbery and the fight with Akul instead showed how readily Oko treated loyalty as another resource. Inside Maag Taranau, the expected treasure proved to be Loot, a child whose mind contained an extraordinary map of the Multiverse. Kellan rejected Oko when protecting lives conflicted with completing the plan. The crew member believed to be Ashiok was revealed as Jace, who was working secretly with Vraska after both survived compleation. They took Loot into their care and into a design hidden from former allies. The heist therefore opened more than a vault: it exposed Fomori infrastructure and placed a living guide to countless worlds at the centre of the next Multiversal struggle.

  13. The Omenpath era · Bloomburrow

    Calamity comes to Valley

The Night Owl Maha attacked Pondside after the theft of a Calamity Beast egg, driving the young augur Helga to carry a warning to Goodhill. Mabel believed her and left her family with the ancestral sword Cragflame, leading a company built from neighbours rather than famous champions. Their route across Valley showed that the enormous beasts shaping night, flood and storm were not acting without cause. Ral Zarek arrived through an Omenpath transformed into an otterfolk, tracking a dragonstorm that linked the local disturbances to a wider pattern. The trail led to Fountainport, where King Glarb had paid mercenaries to obtain the egg and intended to command calamity in the name of security. Helga used modest but timely magic to break his control, while Mabel confronted the Storm Hawk. When Maha appeared, Mabel recognised a parent searching for its young and returned the egg. The crisis ended through empathy instead of conquest. Ral then left to warn the Multiverse, joining Valley’s intimate act of care to dragons moving between planes.

  14. The Omenpath era · Duskmourn

    The rescue inside Duskmourn

Nashi vanished while following evidence connected to Tamiyo through a doorway that disappeared behind him. Kaito and the Wanderer discovered the absence after three months and entered Duskmourn with Niko, Tyvar and Zimone. They found a plane consumed by a changing House, where Valgavoth used rooms, monsters and personalised fear as parts of one hunting system. Local survivors and the guide Winter taught the rescuers that maps expire and hope can attract danger, while glimmers preserved fragments of aspiration the House had not devoured. The team eventually found Nashi and the echo of Tamiyo carried in her final scroll. Winter then delivered them to Valgavoth, trading their lives for a promise of freedom defined entirely by the demon. Nashi released his mother’s spirit rather than allow memory to remain a captive object, and Kaito wounded Valgavoth long enough for the group to escape. The House survived and its doors remained capable of reaching other planes. Duskmourn made the new era’s danger explicit: opening the Multiverse to travellers also allowed predatory worlds to hunt through the same thresholds.

  15. The Omenpath era · Avishkar, Amonkhet and Muraganda

The Ghirapur Grand Prix crosses three planes

Avishkar made interplanar travel a public spectacle by routing the Ghirapur Grand Prix through Amonkhet and Muraganda. Its prize, the manufactured Aetherspark, promised planar freedom to someone without a natural spark. Chandra entered hoping to restore Nissa's lost ability, while Sita Varma raced behind the Spitfire mask to escape her father's control. Muraganda exposed the cost of treating a treaty with one government as permission from an entire living world. Chandra surrendered her advantage to rescue Loot from Winter and protect local life. At the return to Ghirapur, Mohar Varma's attempted Consulate coup trapped the racers as Jace and Vraska seized Loot and a dragonstorm opened above the city. Elspeth contained the dragon while Sita chose to save Pia rather than take the prize. The Champions of Amonkhet crossed the finish while protecting civilians and dedicated the Aetherspark to their recovering plane. Jace and Vraska then carried Loot to Tarkir, and Elspeth warned that dragonstorms were spreading. The race turned Omenpath possibility into a warning: connection can distribute freedom, exploitation and disaster with equal speed.

  16. The Omenpath era · Tarkir and the Meditation Realm

Ugin returns as Tarkir's dragonstorms break loose

After the five clans overthrew their dragonlords, Tarkir's dragonstorms intensified and began reaching other planes. Elspeth brought that warning to Narset, who traced the imbalance to Ugin's absence and entered the Meditation Realm seeking his help. There she found Ugin sustaining a living prison for the amnesiac Nicol Bolas. Jace, guided by an unwilling Loot, stole power from Ugin's gem and tried to use the realm beneath reality to erase the wounds of the Phyrexian invasion. Vraska rejected a perfect past chosen for her, and Jace's attempt collapsed the prison. On Tarkir, Sarkhan sacrificed a wild dragon to regain draconic form and command the storm's creatures. Narset, Elspeth, Ajani and the clans resisted his army until Ugin returned, dispersed the dragons and drove the burning Sarkhan away. The intervention saved Tarkir and restored a keeper to its storms, but Ugin arrived with a worse warning: Nicol Bolas had escaped. A blue-cloaked shape forming after the collapse also left Jace's fate unresolved. Tarkir survived without being reset, while the Multiverse inherited the consequences of every attempted shortcut.

  17. Beyond the Omenpaths · The Sothera system and the Weft

The Endstone finds a road through Sothera

Outside the Multiverse, Tezzeret hired Sami and Tannuk to recover a black artifact from Sigma's Reach. The Endstone could revise the past around a chosen purpose, and its passage gathered Alpharael, a Monoist acolyte who rejected holy death, and Haliya, a Sunstar squire who rejected the massacre committed in the name of the Bright Sum. Rival faiths pursued the Seriema across Kavaron and destroyed Taro-duend before the fugitives reached Infinite Guideline. With Mm'menon's help, the crew stole a warp ferry and forced the station's eternity column to open, carrying the artifact into the Weft. Near the Wurmwall, a mask-faced being calling itself the last thing reclaimed the Endstone and left Tezzeret with physical proof of a power beyond Sothera. Other journeys revealed the same buried conflict across the system: Eldrazi-tainted devices wounded time, an ancient influence waited inside Uthros, a Kav recovery node consumed its seekers and Evendo's new generation faced old imperial threats. The route established the Edge as a connected reality shaped by the aftermath of Fomori-Eldrazi war, while Tezzeret gained a possible lead toward the Chaos Wall and the Multiverse he left behind.

  18. Beyond the Omenpaths · Hexhaven, Strixhaven and mirrored worlds across the Multiverse

The Echoverse overlays reality and is devoured

After rebuilding himself, Jace Beleren created the Echoverse: a second Multiverse intended to remove the catastrophes that had shaped him. Its instability led the dominant fragment called the Theorist to plan an overlay that would replace the souls of the original worlds. Tam abducted the oracle Jadzi so her death could reveal how two planes had merged into Arcavios, while Vraska, Chandra, Ajani and Garruk entered Hexhaven to stop Jace. Direct attacks failed, so the group recovered the mental selves he had excised—among them the Detective, Warden, Nihilist, Guildpact, Soldier and Survivor—and returned them to his body. Jadzi chose the death that carried the Theorist to Arcavios's creation, giving him the method of convergence but also extending his mind beyond his defences. As copied planes began to overlap their originals, Liliana and Vraska created an opening for the fragments to reintegrate. The restored Jace accepted responsibility and died by Vraska's hand, breaking his control without reversing the collision. His spark and integrated qualities passed to Tam, who called Emrakul from Innistrad's moon. The Eldrazi titan separated the Echoverse from the original and consumed every artificial plane. Tam survived as a new planeswalker, carrying Jace's history while choosing an identity and purpose of her own.
