Why Arlinn Kord matters

Arlinn grew up in Kessig as the daughter of a blacksmith and a baker, close enough to the forest to know both its beauty and its hunger. A werewolf attack changed her life and made every familiar relationship dangerous. She learned the discipline required to move among humans while carrying another shape inside her, but discipline did not erase the exhilaration of running with a pack. Becoming a planeswalker helped her learn to control her transformations. The ability to travel did not remove her responsibility to those left on Innistrad.

Tovolar once offered the clearest version of belonging available to a young werewolf. His pack did not demand apologies for instinct, and his strength made persecution feel answerable. Arlinn left when she understood the price: his freedom required humans to become prey and treated compassion as weakness. Their shared past means she never confronts him as a simple monster. She recognizes the fear beneath his politics, yet refuses to let that recognition excuse the people he kills.

When Innistrad's nights begin to lengthen, Arlinn becomes the natural bridge between groups that distrust one another. She works with Katilda's witches, recruits Chandra, Teferi and Kaya, accepts Sigarda's intervention and continues asking for Sorin's help after he rejects them. At Harvesttide, Tovolar attempts to force a final choice between human and wolf. Arlinn transforms and defeats him without accepting his definition of either identity. The wolf is real, but it belongs to her rather than to his cause.

Olivia's theft of the Moonsilver Key makes Arlinn's leadership even less comfortable. She must crash a vampire wedding, cooperate temporarily with Tovolar and trust allies whose motives differ from hers. Recovering the key restores the day, but does not repair every wound. Arlinn knows Tovolar must answer for Harvesttide and still believes a different relationship between humans and werewolves can be built. That tension is not indecision. It is the work she chooses: protecting Innistrad without pretending that protection requires any part of herself to disappear. Following the Phyrexian invasion, Arlinn works with Thalia to strengthen defenses across Innistrad, where strangers entering through Omenpaths face dangers few survive.
