Why Farakatolar matters

Harkener Sergeant Farakatolar serves the Kav Memorial Navy, whose duty is to track every fragment still breaking away from Kavaron That Is. A long-drifting section once marked as a possible memorial vault reaches the outer system, and her small squad receives the chance to investigate. For a people who have lost half a world, even debris can carry history, legitimacy and the hope of repair.

The fragment conceals a vast white structure that sensors cannot properly see. Farakatolar proceeds because command, protocol and need all point inward. An electric-blue orb appears, disappears and draws the squad through rooms that reseal behind them. Each death attacks the body through a different impossibility: a skull opens without impact, compulsive shedding becomes self-destruction and a swarm makes escape irrelevant.

Farakatolar continues toward the artifact after leadership has ceased to mean bringing anyone home. She imagines the orb as an advantage strong enough to justify every loss and to secure Kavaron against rivals. The structure amplifies precisely that desire. Reaching through its surface places her inside the node; injury and confusion become reasons to grip harder rather than warnings to stop.

Nothing remains when she finally closes her hand. Her mission is a miniature of Kavaron's oldest catastrophe: extraction pursued as survival until the method destroys the thing it claims to protect. Farakatolar is brave, responsible and fatally sincere. The ancient device does not need to invent her devotion; it only needs to remove every limit around it.
