Ghan
Drix wefthunter who saves many lives by refusing one impossible return
Ghan hunts an Eldrazi-tainted device through space and time, resisting the chance to restore his lost partner so he can repair the damage already spreading through the Weft.
Profile
Why Ghan matters
Ghan is a Drix wefthunter, trained to cut between lamellae and contain the remnants of an ancient Eldrazi war. The work has become solitary since the death of his partner Sorothir. Every passage through the Weft preserves an echo of that love while insisting on the absence beside him. Ghan survives by turning grief into duty and recklessness into a method that often works just before it should fail.
A breach at abandoned Cail Station leads him to Kesori Umberlin, a human using an Eldrazi-tainted artifact to reach the past and recover her dead sister Errit. The device steals life, wounds the Weft and harms bystanders whenever desire outruns control. Ghan first treats Kesori as a quarry, then learns how an unjust evacuation caused the death she cannot accept. Containment becomes inseparable from the ordinary injustice that produced the temptation.
Pinned beneath a collapsing building, Ghan uses the artifact inside the Weft. It offers routes toward ancient chaos, Kesori's childhood and finally the recent moment when Sorothir might still be reached. He refuses that last possibility. Restoring one beloved life would consume the strength needed to prevent many deaths and would repeat the same refusal to let another person's past remain their own.
Ghan travels a few weeks backward, warns Kesori and gives her a route to legal help through Jadnis. The present changes: Cail's residents live, Kesori becomes an ally and the artifact can be severed and sealed. His next lead names Tannuk as an emerging protobeing. Ghan continues the hunt, but no longer mistakes isolation for ruthlessness. Asking for help becomes part of protecting the Weft.
