Haliya
Sunstar squire who chooses protection over a perfect doctrine
Haliya arrives in Sothera certain that the Bright Sum justifies her order, then learns that honour begins where obedience stops excusing cruelty.
Profile
Why Haliya matters
Haliya enters Sothera as the eager squire of Syr Vondam, a celebrated Solar Knight aboard the Dawnsire. The Celestial Palatinate taught her to understand every sacrifice as part of the Bright Sum, the greatest possible good extended across an immense future. She wants to be worthy of Vondam, to place herself between her mentor and danger, and to believe that a disciplined life can keep moral uncertainty outside her armour.
A Monoist boarding action brings that confidence into contact with Alpharael. He is supposed to be a fanatic seeking glorious death; instead, at the decisive instant, he throws away his promised eternity because he wants another minute alive. The Endstone prevents Vondam's foretold death, and the very impossibility of that survival begins to loosen Haliya's trust in clean predictions. She pursues Alpharael to Kavaron believing recovery of the artifact will restore order.
At Taro-duend she watches her own company massacre civilians under the language of necessity. Across competing revisions she kills, spares and is herself threatened by Vondam's containment orders. Sami gives her guest-right without requiring conversion. Alpharael challenges her theology with the same honesty she brings to his. Haliya finally recognises that a principle which can justify any atrocity has stopped measuring goodness at all.
She joins the Seriema, helps steal a warp ferry and remains determined to report truthfully to the order she has abandoned. At Infinite Guideline her old mentor cannot carry out the duty he once declared absolute, while she refuses both revenge and submission. Haliya ends the route injured by the Endstone's maker but still protecting the people beside her. Her faith does not vanish; it becomes a question she is willing to answer through conduct rather than command.
