Skrelv

A mite beyond the scrap heap

Too small and defective for the Machine Orthodoxy, Skrelv escapes being stripped for parts despite the purpose he has forgotten.

Profile

Why Skrelv matters

Skrelv lives on New Phyrexia, the transformed world once called Mirrodin. The Machine Orthodoxy, led by Elesh Norn, believes that a rigid hierarchy and enforced unity will end conflict. Its promise of perfection leaves little room for those who cannot serve an assigned purpose. This is the society against which Skrelv's small story unfolds.

Skrelv was created alongside thousands of other mites to perform a simple task. He is barely a foot tall, yet possesses a sharp bite. By the time his story is recorded, he has forgotten what he was made to do. The official account does not explain how he lost that memory or what became of the other mites.

By the Machine Orthodoxy's standards, Skrelv is defective and without value. He should have been harvested for parts, his body used to improve a Phyrexian judged more deserving. Instead, he keeps slipping beyond its reach. His small size, cleverness and luck have saved him from being recycled, though the source describes no particular escape or confrontation.

Skrelv is still free at the point where his official account ends. Despite the title Defector Mite, the source confirms neither an alliance with the Mirran resistance nor a later fate.
