Squad Captain Reen

Gravkill pilgrim carrying an atrocity on her skin

Reen seeks stillness at Point Prime while recording every dead person on her body, only to discover that ritual cannot separate penance from the violence she still performs.

Profile

Why Squad Captain Reen matters

Reen is a Monoist gravkill paladin whose tattoos form a private ledger of people killed and people lost. Her most terrible entry comes from Joska, where an operation against the Palatinate destroys hundreds in stasis. The Monasteriat sends her on an obligate pilgrimage toward Point Prime, outwardly a sacred honour and inwardly a way to place distance between a soldier and the consequences that keep her awake.

At Infinite Guideline she boards the mechan ship Too Much Happiness alongside Sunstar soldiers under a temporary peace. The captain's damaged memories suggest an encounter in the Wurmwall and an alien influence growing inside its systems. Reen investigates because the anomaly could be a weapon, but suspicion cuts both ways. Her tattoos expose her identity just as news of the Joska atrocity dissolves the truce.

Combat armour translates doubt into chemical certainty. Reen kills the pursuing soldiers and helps consign their bodies to space. Too Much Happiness experiences nearby death for the first time and asks whether her marks commemorate the fallen or count the felled. The honest answer is both. Her record cannot sort grief from responsibility any more cleanly than her faith can turn the black hole into peace.

Approaching Point Prime, Reen imagines the ink spreading until the individual marks vanish into one dark field. The image calms her, but it is not absolution. She remains a person who understands what she did and expects to be returned to war. Her route exposes how institutions can call trauma pilgrimage while preserving the machinery that caused it.
