Tannuk
Exiled Kav pilot whose loyalty protects both captain and crew
Tannuk is the Seriema's steady first mate, a former Kav Memorial Navy pilot exiled for saving lives in a culture that treats every fragment of its ruined home as sacred.
Profile
Why Tannuk matters
Tannuk served the Kav Memorial Navy after imperial extraction had already split Kavaron apart. When another fragment fell toward inhabited space, he redirected it to reduce the casualties. The manoeuvre saved lives but violated a memorial ethic that regards the lost substance of the homeworld as beyond personal calculation. Dishonour and exile followed. Search-and-rescue work in Sothera's outer reaches gave Tannuk a place to be useful while he no longer believed he deserved a home.
He met Sami at the wreck of the Wurm Speaker and became the practical ballast of the Seriema. Tannuk can repair, pilot and endure without demanding attention, yet his loyalty is not passive. He knows when the captain is masking fear with a scheme and when an impossible contract is really another attempt to find Mirri. Their partnership survives because he tells difficult truths without trying to take command of Sami's choices.
The Endstone makes Tannuk's old guilt physically dangerous. A Drix hunter later identifies him as an emerging protobeing, evidence that Eldrazi corruption has touched the route. Tannuk admits using the artifact but withholds the full cost so Sami will keep moving. On Kavaron he faces a society that still names him criminal, then helps carry its wounded to safety while the Free Company turns their sanctuary into a killing ground.
At Infinite Guideline, Tannuk offers the Seriema's complete record as honest testimony rather than a trick. He survives the alien assault, launches the ship with Sami and finally speaks about the Wurm Speaker when their course reveals where the Endstone wants to go. Exile taught him that belonging cannot depend only on permission from the past. The Seriema is the home he keeps choosing, and the crew survives because he makes that choice dependable.
