A crystal-charged wilderness where monsters evolve faster than walls can rise.
Ikoria
Ikoria belongs to immense, rapidly mutating monsters; humanity survives in fortified sanctuaries or by forming profound magical bonds with the creatures it once feared.
Plane profile
A world worth knowing
Ikoria is a world of monsters first and a human homeland second. Its five triomes each combine three currents of mana into a distinct ecosystem, dominant monster clade and apex predator. Crystals threaded through the landscape feed sudden mutation, so wings, armour or an entirely new anatomy can emerge before hunters have time to revise their plans.
Most humans answer that uncertainty with walls. Sanctuaries such as Drannith combine military discipline, warning crystals and generations of hard-won fieldcraft, yet no defence is permanent against life that can rewrite itself. Other humans become bonders, sharing an eludha with a monster as companion and equal. Their existence challenges the cities' belief that survival requires permanent war against the wild.
Ikoria's scale makes every conflict physical: migrating beasts reshape terrain, apex monsters define regions and even an invasion becomes a clash of colossi. During the Phyrexian assault, some crystals spread corruption while others helped creatures resist it. The plane endured as it always does—not by becoming tame, but by changing faster than the force trying to master it.
