Lathril seeks divine strength because Skemfar's elves need protection after a costly war. The ordeal changes her body and brings her toward godhood, but also leaves her adapting to impaired sight. Sarulf answers with a copper wolf, a harness and an Omenpath. The gift asks a proud leader to be guided before she can guide anyone else.
Across the passage, Lathril and the wolf find Lyana, a blind child separated from her own companion by attackers and draugr. Shared ways of reading the world let Lathril recognise danger that sighted assumptions miss. She returns the child to safety, then follows the trail for the stolen wolf even when panic and unfamiliar terrain strip away her confidence.
Sarulf reveals that her guide is Lukya and accepts Lathril's protection of his children. His blessing allows her people to travel safely through his lands and communicate with its beasts. The reward is communal rather than ornamental. Lathril returns with an ally, a new compact and proof that dependence freely chosen can become a form of leadership.
