Five students discover that the most lasting education begins where college expectations stop providing safe answers

Quintorius and the Buried City

Quintorius doubts his boastful spirit mentor, then learns that overlooked testimony can unlock a history formal scholarship has repeatedly walked past.

Lorehold pairs Quintorius Kand with Asterion, a spirit whose stories sound too convenient and too grand. Asterion insists that he once found Zantafar, the legendary lost city of the loxodon. Quint wants evidence badly enough to sneak his mentor away from campus, even though Professor Hofri offers the patient guidance Asterion seems unable to provide.

The cave contains nothing until disappointment makes both student and mentor honest. Asterion explains why he sought Zantafar in the name of Vis, a loxodon companion denied a fair hearing and erased from respectable history. Quint stops asking whether Asterion behaves like an ideal authority and starts listening for the piece of memory that institutional accounts excluded.

A canticle preserved through loxodon tradition opens a concealed descent. Below, Quint finds Asterion's remains, proof of his fatal mistake, and beyond them the spectral city itself. The discovery validates neither blind faith nor rigid procedure. It comes from testing evidence while allowing marginalized memory to change what counts as evidence in the first place.
