Ravnica ยท Red, Green
Domri Rade
A wild caller whose revolution chose the wrong ally
Domri wanted the city broken open for the wild. His gift for creatures and rise among the Gruul did not teach him the difference between freedom and a conqueror's invitation.
Profile
Why Domri Rade matters
Domri's affinity for beasts grew beside his distrust of rules and rank. In the Gruul rite called the Burying, panic beneath the earth ignited his spark. He awoke in a vast jungle without Ravnica's enclosing buildings, then found his way back to his people.
The shaman Sabast did not condemn the inexplicable journey. His acceptance gave Domri a place at the fire without requiring a tidy explanation. Knowing another world existed widened the young mage's sense of what the Gruul could recover.
Later, Domri defeated Borborygmos and took the guild's leadership, with Bolas's influence helping his rise. Some shamans read an approaching End-Raze into that change. Command over powerful animals had become political authority, not a guarantee of sound judgment.
During the invasion, his fighters first helped Kaya and Teyo against the Eternals. Domri then embraced Bolas's destruction as an opportunity and tried to change sides. Gan Shokta rejected him. Domri became the first harvested planeswalker: the supposed alliance offered no protection.
