Ten guilds make one impossible city work
Ravnica
An urban plane divides civic life among ten two-colour guilds whose rivalry is both Ravnica's greatest weakness and its operating system.
Plane profile
A world worth knowing
Ravnica is a city laid over older cities until streets, ruins and institutions cover nearly the entire plane. The ten guilds each turn a pair of mana colours into a public mission and a worldview: law, faith, commerce, research, public works, entertainment, espionage, military force, reclamation or resistance to the city itself.
The Guildpact was designed to stop those philosophies from becoming open war, but balance on Ravnica is never the same as peace. Nicol Bolas exploited the city as a trap for planeswalkers during the War of the Spark, and later invaders again forced rivals to defend the same streets. Ravnica survives because no single guild can replace all the others, however often one tries.
