Why Freyalise matters

Freyalise emerged during Dominaria’s Ice Age, a half-elven mage whose identity and loyalties were forged among peoples surviving a frozen world. She fought Lim-Dûl alongside Jodah and Jaya, then cast the World Spell that ended the long winter. The release transformed Dominaria and marked Freyalise’s ascent into the scale of power associated with the old planeswalkers.

She became a guardian of elven communities rather than a distant traveller collecting influence. Fyndhorn’s destruction and later upheavals taught her that saving a people might mean relocating them, rebuilding culture and accepting anger from those who survived. Her protection was never gentle paternalism; it was leadership with sharp edges and an expectation that her followers endure.

During the Phyrexian invasion, Freyalise joined Urza’s Nine Titans despite distrusting both him and the machinery of his plans. Cooperation did not erase those differences, but Dominaria’s survival required powers who rarely agreed to act together. She emerged from that war with no illusion that immense ability guaranteed wisdom.

The temporal rift over Skyshroud threatened the people and land she had claimed responsibility for. Closing it required more than a spell cast from safety. Freyalise committed her spark and life to the repair, becoming one of the sacrifices that made the Mending possible. The choice completed a long arc from shaping history through power to giving power away so history could continue.
