Why High Perfect Morcant matters
Morcant leads the elves of Lys Alana under the title High Perfect, carrying a hierarchy that once classified other peoples as lesser life. The fall of Oona ended elven dominion but not her belief in it. She presents supremacy as responsibility and coercion as the price of restoring order.
Her rule operates through indirect pressure as often as open force. Wealth, assassinations and rival communities become tools for weakening resistance while keeping her own role deniable. Those near her learn that beauty earns status only while it remains useful and obedience is never enough to create safety.
Kirol's arrival gives Morcant a person capable of crossing the aurora unchanged. She orders the student into Shadowmoor to gather dawnglove, planning to refine it into a weapon against Isilu. The demand makes Lluwen confront what service to Lys Alana requires and finally refuse it.
Morcant marches on Isilu behind reliquaries that imprison living daylight. Her coup fails because the people she treats as instruments act for one another: Sanar distracts her, Lluwen takes the vial and Kirol delivers the cure to Maralen. The defeat leaves her authority exposed as appetite rather than stewardship.
