Night falls at midmorning

Helga’s ignored vision becomes real when Maha drives darkness and destruction across Pondside.

Helga had struggled to make others trust her augury. Her attention wandered during ordinary work, while visions arrived as drawings she could not always interpret. When she sketched a terrifying winged form, even she feared it might be another private failure rather than a warning.

Maha’s arrival answered the doubt with catastrophe. The Night Owl crossed the daytime sky trailing darkness, destroyed buildings and scattered Pondside. Helga survived with no power capable of stopping the beast, but survival gave her a task: reach another settlement and make somebody listen.

Her journey to Goodhill was the first heroic act of the crisis. She did not defeat anything or understand why the attack happened. She simply carried information while hurt and frightened, turning a vision into help for people who could no longer ask for it themselves.
