Atraxa
A Mirran defender remade as Norn's conquering angel
Atraxa once defended Mirrans from Phyrexia. Compleation made that resistance a trophy and her strength an invading weapon, until New Capenna's defenders used their own city to bring her down.
Profile
Why Atraxa matters
Before she was a Phyrexian general, Atraxa was an angel defending Mirran survivors. She was captured while holding back the enemy so others could retreat. Her later image as inevitable conquest began with a person actively resisting that conquest.
Elesh Norn made her capture into a demonstration. Jin-Gitaxias, Sheoldred and Vorinclex contributed to her compleation; Urabrask refused. Four praetors' work produced the angel called the Praetors' Voice, but did not represent the consent or participation of all five.
Atraxa became Norn's loyal general and created Ixhel as a lieutenant to subdue the other spheres. Ixhel in turn assembled Vishgraz, whose creation the Orthodoxy condemned. Atraxa's lineage exposes an unstable doctrine: the rulers celebrate their own acts of making while treating an unexpected result as heresy.
Norn sent Atraxa to conquer New Capenna during the Multiversal invasion. Errant, Della and allied resistance fighters made Park Heights' supports the target of a demolition plan, rather than matching the angel's strength in open combat. The district's collapse killed her. Atraxa was not cleansed or restored; people she dismissed found a way to end the weapon she had become.
