Mirrodin was born as Argentum, an artificial world created by Karn. Metal was not confined to tools or buildings: it ran through forests, mountains, grasslands and the bodies of the people brought there. Five suns connected that strange ecology to all five colours of mana.

Karn's caretaker Memnarch abducted inhabitants from across the Multiverse while descending into paranoia. Even after his defeat, the danger beneath the surface remained. Phyrexian oil had entered with Karn and spent generations adapting to the plane. This profile preserves Mirrodin as the world's earlier identity; New Phyrexia records what the invasion made of it.
