Vito’s faith reached its destination in Aclazotz. The god rewarded devotion by remaking followers into more monstrous instruments and moved to close the broken shell around Chimil. The act was both supernatural assault and historical repetition: the light the Oltec had recovered faced imprisonment again.
The returning darkness transformed political disagreement into immediate survival. Oltec defenders, Sun Empire warriors and travellers who had distrusted one another now shared a battlefield. Cooperation did not erase their competing interests, but it prevented those interests from becoming an excuse to wait while another people’s sky disappeared.
Huatli fought with the awareness that victory would not settle what came after. Saving Chimil was necessary; claiming the rescue as proof of Sun Empire authority would reproduce the logic that had brought so many armed expeditions underground.
