After a poisoned meal killed his taster, Tasigur accepted Khudal's accusation against Yala. He murdered her husband and tortured her before reading enough of her mind to discover that she had not attempted the poisoning.
He killed her anyway, denying the rakshasa the soul promised in their bargain. Khudal admitted using the accusation for his own purposes. The demon and the naga withdrew, taking the machinery of Tasigur's power with them.
The abandoned court declined through hunger, raids and desertion. Tasigur eventually offered treasure to Silumgar while kneeling in the mud. This episode ends at his submission; it does not yet show the later terms that turn a khan's promised prestige into captivity.
