A world worth knowing
Tarkir's history was rewritten when Sarkhan Vol travelled roughly twelve centuries into the past and saved Ugin. The Spirit Dragon's survival sustained the storms that create adult dragons, allowing five great broods to defeat the khans and place the clans beneath dragonlord rule. Most inhabitants never knew that a dragonless version of their world had existed.
The clans eventually rebelled and revived the names and values their rulers had suppressed. That freedom came with a destabilised sky: the Stormnexus Ritual disrupted the old balance of draconic mana, producing unfamiliar dragons and more destructive storms. Abzan, Jeskai, Sultai, Mardu and Temur now have agency again, but they must use it while the plane's source of dragons becomes an existential hazard.
