Vivien gathers a dying monstrosaur's essence while the court watches. When a guard tries to use the Arkbow, the attempt kills him. The baron still refuses to accept its bond with her. His containment magic misses a small spider, giving Vivien a living connection through which she can disrupt the prison.
She enlarges the spider, breaks free and summons the monstrosaur. It kills the baron; Vivien then strengthens the menagerie's captives until they can escape their enclosures. The released animals tear through Luneau, bringing destruction and danger well beyond the man who held her.
Vivien leaves with the Arkbow, but liberation here is costly and violent. The tale does not restore Skalla or make every consequence just. It asks what happens when a society confuses care with control, then discovers that the lives it has dismissed can act together. Her later work carries both that resolve and its capacity for devastation.
The spider crawls from a guard's pocket after the man tries using the Arkbow and dies. The binding magic does not register a creature so small. Vivien enlarges it, disturbing the court and its concentration on her prison; she then summons the newly gathered monstrosaur spirit, which turns against the Baron of Vernot. The collapsing building and freed animals also put other people in Luneau in danger, so the escape is not a casualty-free act of liberation.
