Urabrask
Phyrexian praetor who opposes unity imposed without choice
Urabrask opposed Norn's compulsory unity without rejecting Phyrexia itself. His rebellion offered the Mirrans an opening, not a restored homeland, and ended in the public violence his rival used to enforce obedience.
Profile
Why Urabrask matters
Urabrask is a Phyrexian praetor, but his idea of perfection conflicts with the order Elesh Norn intends to impose. The Quiet Furnace values independence, creation and the will of those who transform. Norn's plan leaves no such space: every world must become Phyrexian and every Phyrexian must serve one vision. Urabrask's resistance begins inside that distinction. He does not oppose Phyrexia; he opposes a singular Phyrexia that cannot tolerate choice.
Tezzeret carries him through the Planar Bridge to New Capenna. The passage strips away organic material and leaves the praetor gravely wounded beneath Caldaia, dependent on secrecy and Halo. That vulnerability does not make his alliance transparent. Tezzeret serves several agendas, Urabrask speaks in the language of necessity and Vivien Reid meets both of them with an arrow ready. Cooperation becomes possible only because all three understand what Elesh Norn's victory would mean.
Halo restores Urabrask while Vivien investigates the city above. He identifies Elspeth as more than another fighter. Her survival, spark and connection to the Mirran cause could give his rebellion a figure capable of joining Phyrexian dissenters with the people Norn intends to conquer. His willingness to wait for her consent is incomplete and impatient; he asks Vivien to recruit rather than seize her, then suggests accelerating the city's collapse when delay threatens his plans.
Before the wider invasion, Urabrask had already ordered his furnace workers to tolerate Mirran refugees. Tolerance was precarious, not freedom: settlements could survive only while remaining small enough to be ignored. His independent vision still belonged to the brutal civilisation remaking their world.
The rebellion continued on New Phyrexia. Urabrask gave Chandra, Wrenn and the resistance information about a concealed approach to Realmbreaker. Norn later had him dismembered before her throne and carried away. She made dissent into a public spectacle; his challenge to her rule offered no protection from its instruments of control.
