A shield · A memory · A rebellion · A seed
What Power Leaves Behind
A shield can fail, rebellion can meet punishment and a life can leave something that is not a restored body. These four episodes follow the consequences that spectacular power cannot simply erase.
Why this story matters
The route in brief
Magic makes impossible interventions possible. It does not make their consequences interchangeable. Saving one life can leave another beyond reach; carrying a memory can create a responsibility without reversing the loss that made the memory precious.
These chapters follow four separate episodes, from Kytheon's early confidence to the aftermath of Phyrexia's invasion. They are not a meeting between the people involved. Their connection is a question each faces differently: what remains when the power available is not enough to give everyone the ending they wanted?
A shield, an Echo, a defeated rebellion and a growing plant ask for different kinds of attention. Following those differences matters more than turning every remnant into a resurrection. The people left behind still have choices, and making those choices is part of the story rather than an interruption after its final battle.

Kytheon's shield cannot cover everyone
Victory over a titan tempts Kytheon into challenging Erebos; the protection that saves him does not save his friends.
On Theros, Kytheon led his Irregulars and learned discipline from Hixus during imprisonment. Heliod later armed him against a titan sent by Erebos. With his friends beside him, Kytheon brought that enemy down.
He then aimed the divine weapon at Erebos himself. The god turned it back with his whip. Kytheon's protective magic held around his own body, but it did not cover his companions. Their deaths shattered the confidence victory had just encouraged.
His spark carried him to Bant, where a stranger heard his name as Gideon. A new world offered escape from the battlefield, not release from its memory. Nearly invulnerable skin had not made him a guardian who could protect everyone.

Inti's Echo is not an undone death
Inti dies in the Core; Huatli later carries his Echo to Wayta in a cosmium blade.
Inti died during the expedition into Ixalan's Core. Huatli, who had survived Phyrexia's invasion beside him, now faced a loss that their earlier victory had not prevented.
She killed Vito. Later, a cosmium gem in Inti's sword carried his soul as an Echo. Huatli brought the blade to Wayta.
The sword gave Wayta a connection to someone she had lost. It did not make the expedition's dead companion return unharmed, or make the grief surrounding that death disappear. Those left behind still had to decide how to live with it.

Urabrask's rebellion does not end in a pardon
A concealed approach gives the resistance an opening before Norn makes Urabrask's punishment a public demonstration.
On New Phyrexia, Urabrask gave Chandra, Wrenn and the Mirran resistance information about a concealed route toward Realmbreaker. Opposition within Phyrexia could create an opening without making its dissidents harmless or their alliance equal.
Norn later displayed Urabrask bound before her throne. She ordered his body quartered and the pieces carried away. Punishment became part of the same performance through which she tried to make obedience appear inevitable.
His disagreement with Norn did not earn mercy from her. Nor did it turn the regime he wanted into a recovered Mirrodin. The resistance could use his help while still pursuing a future that his own idea of Phyrexia did not promise.

A sprout is not the same life restored
Seven is destroyed; Wrenn reaches Eight, and the exchange of worlds leaves an acorn and a later sprout.
Wrenn entered New Phyrexia with Chandra. Compleated Nissa destroyed Seven before Wrenn could reach Realmbreaker. She later bonded with the invasion tree as Eight and found a path to Teferi and Zhalfir.
The exchange returned Zhalfir while placing New Phyrexia beyond ordinary reach. Wrenn burned to ash. Teferi recovered an acorn and planted it on the restored plane; saving a remnant was not the same as bringing back her former body.
Afterward, Nissa sat beside its rapidly growing sprout beneath Zhalfir's inherited suns. Wrenn's treesong remained something to remember. The growth did not establish another walking partnership or erase what the passage between worlds had cost.
