The resistance needed more than scattered heroics. Ravnica's leylines and guild structure offered a counterweight, but only if all ten guilds contributed. That demand was politically improbable: some guilds had been infiltrated, others had lost leaders and nearly all had reasons to distrust one another.
Against those odds, representatives of every guild helped complete the plan around Niv-Mizzet. The dragon had died before the invasion, but his remains, the Firemind's Vessel and the power channelled through the guilds allowed him to return. He emerged as the Living Guildpact, carrying a bond to the whole city rather than to one faction.
Niv-Mizzet's rebirth did not win the war by itself. Its importance was strategic and symbolic. Bolas had treated Ravnica as scenery for his transformation; Ravnica answered with a transformation rooted in its own complicated civic identity.
