Why Chandra Nalaar matters
Chandra grew up on the plane once called Kaladesh, where the Consulate restricted the aether her parents used and treated unsanctioned magic as a crime. Her pyromancy made her a target. Persecution, loss and a staged execution ignited her spark, carrying her away before she understood what had happened.
At Keral Keep on Regatha, Chandra found teachers who valued discipline without demanding obedience. Even so, her instinct remained direct: when someone was threatened, she moved before the perfect plan arrived. That impatience caused mistakes, but it also made her almost impossible to intimidate into silence.
Joining the Gatewatch turned Chandra's private rebellion into a commitment to other worlds. She fought on Zendikar, returned home during the Aether Revolt and survived Bolas's trap on Ravnica. Gideon's death showed her the cost of treating courage as inexhaustible, while the group's fractures forced her to decide what its promises meant without him.
Her bond with Nissa makes the largest conflicts personal. Chandra returned to New Phyrexia when retreat seemed rational, helped Wrenn master the fire inside Realmbreaker and stayed beside Nissa after the invasion. She kept her spark when many friends lost theirs, but the important continuity is simpler: Chandra still measures victory by who gets to live freely after the flames are gone.
