The family uses what Bolas overlooks. Baishya wears Naiva's mantle, while Naiva stays concealed. Yasova and the whisperer draw on knowledge of the Immortal Sun to suggest that a trap threatens him elsewhere. His arrogance makes the disguise possible, and his fear of losing freedom gives their warning force.
Bolas leaves in a violent rush that causes an avalanche. Baishya's magic protects herself and Yasova among the falling rocks. The survivors reunite, aware that the escape depended on complementary abilities: Yasova read the enemy, Baishya resisted and shielded, and Naiva accepted a part of the plan that did not place her in front.
Tarkir is still ruled by dragons, and Ugin's refuge remains a secret to protect. The victory is smaller than a restored world but large enough to preserve a possibility. Naiva and Baishya understand one another differently at the refuge. They do not have to possess the same strength to make a future together. Yasova returns to Atarka; Baishya will listen, Fec carve and Naiva hunt at the refuge.
The threat of the Immortal Sun is a bluff built around a genuine but unfinished plan. Ugin had contemplated trapping Bolas, but no Immortal Sun trap is activated at the cocoon. Yasova and Baishya persuade Bolas that he may be standing inside a device's focal point, making his fear of confinement stronger than his confidence. His retreat causes the avalanche, and Baishya shields Yasova against falling stone. Their victory is a deception, not a demonstrated functioning trap on Tarkir.
