Naiva accompanies Baishya onto a sacred mountain, where the whisperer's vision interrupts a dangerous climb. The message is meant for their grandmother, Yasova Dragonclaw, a title Atarka has forbidden. Repeating it is already an act of resistance against a ruler who would rather the clan forget how its people once governed themselves.
The vision reaches much further back. Nicol and Ugin emerge into a world where older dragons dominate and human hunters can kill their kin. Their sister's death gives Nicol a lasting fear of weakness. Ugin sees the same danger and begins asking what lies beyond the struggle to survive it.
The pairing of dragon twins and human twins is the story's organising comparison, not a claim that either family is destined to repeat the other. Both pairs share intimacy without sharing every talent or desire. What they do with those differences will decide whether closeness becomes mutual care or another opportunity to dominate.
