The aftermath has a human-scale answer in Arlinn Kord. Years earlier, she sought safety from lycanthropy by becoming a Goldnight archmage. A transformation killed people she knew, including an angel, and the shock ignited her spark. Time away from Innistrad taught her that denying one half of herself was not the same as controlling it.
In the present crisis, her former mentor Rembert still treats her as the monster even when a mad angel attacks him. Arlinn kills the angel and reaches into a gorge to rescue the wounded archmage. He initially recoils from the paw she offers. She changes to human form and keeps offering help.
Arlinn does not deny what she did in the past or require instant forgiveness before acting. Her response grounds protection in responsibility rather than a supposedly flawless identity. With Avacyn gone, Innistrad must find strength in people willing to protect one another. That is not the end of its larger catastrophe, but it is a reason the world's survivors are more than abandoned prey.
