THE HISTORY THAT SURVIVED
Tarkir: Lives Under the Dragonlords
In Tarkir's rewritten history, strength and learning serve dragonlords. Narset, Sorin and local survivors expose what that order conceals, while a later rebellion recovers forbidden kinship.
Why this story matters
The route in brief
This is the present created after Sarkhan saves Ugin. The dragons rule, and people such as Surrak, Narset and Anafenza have grown through different lives from their counterparts in the original clan history. Their stories are alternatives, not forgotten chapters of the same individual careers.
The first accounts show that rewritten present through learning, hunting, punishment and an old ally's search. Ojutai's teaching and Atarka's demands offer genuine power while restricting how it may be used. Dromoka's prohibition on ancestral magic makes saving fellow soldiers a punishable act.
The final chapter deliberately jumps much later, to the aftermath of the Phyrexian invasion. It follows Felothar and Vasi within an Abzan rebellion, showing how forbidden connections can be recovered. Their new trust does not yet establish a completed victory over Dromoka.

The Great Teacher's student opens a forbidden history
Narset's discovery ignites her spark; leaving Tarkir becomes possible without erasing her complicated attachment to Ojutai.
Narset found relief and purpose in Ojutai's lessons, advancing to master while still young. That achievement did not end her hunger for knowledge. Searching below the sanctuaries revealed records incompatible with the history she had been taught.
Taigam threatened to report her, but she continued until she found the hidden account of the ancient summit. Reading Ojutai's role broke her confidence and ignited her spark. She glimpsed another world, then pulled herself back instead of immediately abandoning Tarkir.
Her search eventually returned her to the river where she had first heard him. A renewed lesson opened a way to move forward. The ending preserves both discovered truth and a difficult bond; it does not make the original khan Narset and this planeswalker two stages of one uninterrupted life.

Surrak defends Atarka's offering
The Hunt Caller survives by feeding his dragonlord, while using the same hierarchy against anyone weaker than himself.
Under Atarka, Surrak led a hunt whose failure could make the hunters themselves her meal. A sick or desperate dragon attacked the loaded sledge. He killed it to preserve the offering, then used its body to keep his people warm and fed during a storm.
His second treated killing and eating a dragon as a forbidden violation and appealed to Atarka for punishment. Her brief instruction left Surrak free to answer the challenge himself.
He injured the man and required him to join the next hunt despite his broken ribs. Strength had justified defending the meat and now justified his own authority. The successful delivery kept the group alive without making service to Atarka a humane or equal compact.

The Guardian persists after a forbidden rescue
Oret executes Anafenza, then hides an anchor for her spirit so she can continue protecting their people.
Captain Anafenza and Oret fled a Kolaghan assault and reached a surviving kin-tree. She called its spirits into the fight, defeating Gvar's raiders and driving back the dragons. Their own scalelord then destroyed the tree.
Calling ancestors violated Dromoka's law. Oret asked to perform the execution himself and killed the cousin who had saved him. He later gathered the amber fragments, hoping that one carried her spirit.
At a hidden tree he placed the fragments and carved her name, then removed its location from official maps. Reports of a protecting spirit gave him reason to believe the attempt had worked. His confession does not undo the death; it explains how a guardian could continue after the institution she served condemned her.

A poisoned heart waits for an opening
Sidisi protects Silumgar from one attempt while secretly collecting the means for another, still uncompleted revenge.
Reanimated as a sibsig, Sidisi retained memories of pleasures she could no longer experience. An envoy offered tribute, then revealed poisons meant to kill Silumgar. The dragon understood the conversation even while declining to speak the man's language.
The attack failed, and Sidisi delivered the dying envoy to a pit while warning that his people would face greater punishment. Her public performance made resistance look futile and her loyalty unquestionable.
Inside the space where her heart had been, she stored poisons taken from earlier would-be assassins. She hoped their combined potency and an unguarded moment would restore naga power. The story ends with that preparation, not Silumgar dead or Sidisi already ruling the brood.

Ugin wakes to the news from Zendikar
Opening the cocoon restores a living ally, but the Eldrazi crisis still requires Nahiri and an explanation Sorin avoids.
Sorin came to Tarkir searching for help against the released Eldrazi. In this history he found Ugin alive inside a hedron cocoon, rather than discovering the dead dragon of the original timeline. He did not remember both outcomes.
His blood magic unravelled the binding and let Ugin emerge after more than a millennium. The dragon understood that someone had saved him, then learned why his old ally had come.
Ugin required the three original binders to work together and asked for Nahiri. Sorin admitted that she lived while avoiding the fuller truth about their conflict. Awakening Ugin restored a possibility, not the prison or the broken alliance. Sorin left with another obligation he could not solve by simply producing a dragon.

After the invasion, a student leaves for her sister
Felothar mistakes Vasi's departure for betrayal before their duel reveals what the recovered kinship has given her.
Much later, after Phyrexia weakened Dromoka's forces, Felothar's rebels preserved ancestral teaching. She spared Vasi, a young loyalist, and trained her under a promised duel. Their conversations revealed kinship extending beyond blood and the ward-sister from whom Vasi had been separated.
Preparing for a dangerous raid, Felothar withheld trust and missed what her student needed. Vasi left to find Bara, but the teacher pursued her as a potential traitor. Their fight ended with Vasi's newly summoned ancestors helping her win.
They acknowledged their fear and repaired the misunderstanding. Felothar lent her Heartsblood and blessed the search; Vasi departed with a spirit escort. The reunion with Bara and the rebellion's decisive victory remain ahead. Chosen family had already changed the terms between two former enemies.
