READ THE PERSON, NOT ONLY THE PORTRAIT
Old Legends, Different Lives
Explore seven individual legacies through belief, magical bargains and contested control. These portraits connect themes without inventing a shared campaign or a single historical moment.
Why this story matters
The route in brief
A portrait offers a way into a life, not permission to fill every silence. Begin with what the account actually describes, then follow an individual profile for the limits and consequences that belong to that person.
Read these stops as parallel histories. A remembered teaching, a bargain and an act of command need not happen together to illuminate different relationships with power. Shared themes do not make their subjects travelling companions.
The links below lead to specific described actions. They do not certify an entire novel or turn a later portrayal into a witnessed return. Keep remembered authority separate from a new bodily appearance, and a surviving object separate from its former bearer.

What a portrait leaves out
Distinguish an account of influence from a witnessed scene. A remembered name can survive while the person, place or circumstances have changed.
Svyelun taught mortals and fell silent. Tourach was deified after death. Ferrous sent ten titans against rebels.
Garth's story offers another kind of partial view. The stranger arrives seeking revenge, while the inspected duel shows how broadly he can answer another planeswalker's magic. He raises a living barrier and turns an enemy demon against other summoned forces.
Dragons and doubles contest the space around the duel. That variety matters more here than treating the later card as a literal record of this encounter: its final six spells were chosen for play, and not every one is identified as something Garth cast in the scene.

Survival can leave another price
A successful response to one threat may create a different problem. Read the choice and its consequences without filling in an uninspected ending.
Asmor summons a demon without having food ready. She accepts work in its kitchen rather than becoming the meal. The bargain makes cooking a means of staying alive, not evidence that the demon has become a harmless patron.
Her preparations become The Underworld Cookbook. Recording how to serve other creatures makes her a target of those who might become ingredients. A written legacy can spread a skill while also spreading the danger attached to its author.
The book is a survival record as well as a collection of recipes. Its legacy follows the cook beyond the first threat, without turning the demon's appetite into an innocent commission.

Tools and recruits have different futures
Separate a person's choice from the use of a weapon. Cooperation, recruitment and ownership do not describe the same kind of relationship.
Ripley defeats Vargus's attack on Spitfire Bastion. Instead of executing him, she offers a ship and a place in the Coalition. He becomes a trusted captain, turning an enemy's audacity into strength she can use without rewriting his earlier independence.
Kaldra's living-weapon portrayal instead presents Phyrexia's corruption of Mirran equipment. Sword, shield and helm supply an older inheritance, but their new form belongs to the conquerors' dominance. An altered set of relics does not establish that an old heroic identity returned unchanged.
On Avishkar, Ragavan warns Kari Zev of boarders and risks capture beside her. Their cooperation belongs to a different pirate history, not an unrecorded meeting with Ripley. These connections compare choices; they do not assemble the portraits into one expedition.
