In a childhood war memory, Vraska meets the Soldier who was trained to kill before he understood the person he might become. She does not deny the lives he took or withdraw her love from the frightened child beneath the weapon. The Soldier agrees to ask for help. On an Ixalan shore, the Survivor admits that he does not want a painful death.
Vraska and the Survivor exchange a Vrynian promise that binds love to change rather than innocence. She offers the merciful death her petrifying gaze can provide, and he asks her to be there for Tam. Their farewell gives the future sacrifice a human shape: not punishment, not escape, but an accountable choice made by the whole person they are rebuilding.
Unable to kill Jadzi himself, the Theorist enters her field of possible futures. The oracle recognises the one route that can continue and cuts her own throat. Her dying consciousness drags him to Arcavios's creation, where he witnesses two planes collide and learns how to reproduce the merger. He returns with cosmic knowledge and starts the overwrite before the gathered fragments can stop him.
